Description
Preston Peak Wines is a family owned boutique wine business, based in Preston, South East Queensland. Producing since 1994, the winery has grown in size and reputation, now producing 3500 cases of wine annually and receiving over 20,000 visitors to the Cellar Door each year. The winery was awarded a four and a half star rating in James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion 2010, with the 2006 Reserve Shiraz receiving five stars and 94 points.
Preston Peak Wines produces a range of bottled red, white, sparkling and fortified wines, appealing to a broad spectrum of the wine market in three product ranges: the Reserve - premium wines with cellaring potential, the Leaf Series - fruit driven wines suitable for drinking now, and the recently expanded Wildflower range which offers a reasonably priced range of easy drinking table wines including Merlot, Shiraz, Blanc and a picnic-style red. All three ranges are now being made by several specialist wine makers, including Mark Ravenscroft, Peter Scudamore-Smith, Mike Hayes and Peter Stark.
The company has two vineyards - Devil's Elbow Vineyard, the site of the winery in Wyberba near Stanthorpe and the Preston Vineyard near Toowoomba, the site of the Cellar Door, with the former vineyard producing the majority of the grape crush.
Toowoomba dentists Ashley Smith and Kym Thumpkin established Preston Peak Wines in 1994, from Wyberba in the Granite Belt. In 1999, the Preston Peak Wines Cellar Door opened in Preston and since then has developed a reputation with locals and visitors for its quality wine product, free wine tasting, events and its stunning location and views.
Situated on the edge of the Range Escarpment, the winery offers a spectacular view of the vineyards, Lockyer Valley, and Table Top Mountain, 5 minutes south of Toowoomba.
While the majority of wine is sold through the Cellar Door, the Preston Peak Wine Society offers mail order and posts the wines to members all around Australia.
