Explore the fascinating world of native Australian plants, from bushfoods to medicinal plants, utility trees, and fauna-attracting species that once thrived in the greater Lockyer Valley and Southeast Queensland.
What to expect:
Learn about Native Dry Rainforest Plants – Discover the wide variety of species found in the arboretum and beyond.
Bushfoods & Medicinal Uses – Uncover the traditional and contemporary uses of native Australian plants and how they benefit humans, wildlife and the environment.
Biodiversity in Your Backyard – Get tips on creating your very own biodiverse Dry Rainforest Garden at home, in community spaces, or school gardens.
Attracting Wildlife – Learn which plants attract native birds, bees, and butterflies, supporting the local ecosystem.
Bonus:
We’ll have a selection of native plants available for purchase, including bushfoods, medicinal plants, and utility trees. Prices range from $5–$10 (cash only). Bring your wallet to take home some new plants for your garden!
Where to meet:
We’ll gather at the Dry Rainforest Arboretum entrance at Lake Apex, Gatton, QLD (opposite the Visitor Information Centre).

What to bring:
Sunhat, sunglasses, sunscreen.
Insect repellent.
Water bottle.
Umbrella or raincoat (just in case).
Cash (for plant purchases).
